Ali Nofrey

Ali Nofrey is a new media fibers artist who utilizes soft sculpture, object, and wearable pieces to play with traditional Western and Eastern craft in a contemporary art context. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art with an emphasis in Digital Studio Practice with a cross-discipline in Fibers from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

Nofrey was born in Masan, South Korea and adopted to Wisconsin, USA in 1996. Her experiences of adoption to Midwest America motivates the exploration of Asian-American identity and transracial adoption in her work. More specifically, these themes include nostalgia, memory, family, isolation, and the collective vs. the individual.

She was a recipient of the Frederick R Layton Scholarship and has had work featured in exhibitions such as FIBER / FORM II held in Kenilworth Square East and Virago held in VarWest Gallery. She also shared her skills and experiences with textiles by leading workshops as a guest teacher at the Studio Arts & Craft Centre.
