어머니 eomeoni (Mother) is a hand-dyed and hand sewn plush doll with accessories that is made to be a comfort object for my inner child. Comfort objects such as a plushie or blanket are made to ease anxiety in children notably when their parent is not present. I created my own version of how I wish my birthmother would be - huggable with beautiful long hair and a pleasant smile. She wears a pastel yellow hanbok, or traditional style Korean dress.
The details of my real birth mother is scarce. One key piece of information in my adoption file is that she worked at a fish market, hence the clever and basket of fish. This imaginary version of my birth-mother provides a bittersweet comfort, as she can never replace the real thing.
